Cognitive Development
Most
of us have had experiences in which we learned to master a set of skills, how
to create something, or how to perform an action from an older or more skilled
person, such as a parent, older friend, sibling, or coach. Recall such an
experience (e.g., learning to cook a meal of spaghetti, learning to sketch)
from your childhood or adolescence. Analyze that learning experience from a
Vygotskian perspective. Incorporate these concepts in your analysis: intersubjectivity,
scaffolding, zone of proximal development, private speech, transfer of
responsibility.
Metaphor for a Teacher
What is your metaphor for a
good teacher? Why? What are the teacher’s responsibilities
within your metaphor? What are the
student’s responsibilities within your metaphor?
